Tot cercant el famós i diví Bosó de Higgs… n’hem trobat un altre!
Potser no ha anat ben bé així, però com que la serendipitat fa la recerca científica molt romàntica, m’agrada veur-ho d’aquest amanera.
La questió és que a l’LHC del CERN els investigadors han descobret una nova partícula elemental, fins ara desoneguda (anunciat el passat 27 d’abril). L’han batejat com a Xi(b)* i es tracta d’un barió, format per 3 quarks (Up, Strange i Bottom). D’aquesta manera, la nova partícula s’assembla força al conegut protó (barió format per 2 quarks Up i un quark Down).
